Howell has strong Southeast Texas golf roots as a Beaumont native, a former Beaumont City Championship winner, and West Brook High School graduate.

Howell earned Division II Jr. College All-American honors at Temple College and went on to play golf at Lamar University. Howell is celebrated for his achievements as an assistant with University of Virginia and his dedication to developing young athletes. He is currently in his 19th season with Texas State.

Previous guest speakers for the Babe Zaharias Jr Golf Awards include Astros Golf Foundation’s Giles Kibbe and Brian White along with PGA Tour player, Chris Stroud — a Groves native, former PN-G and Lamar golf standout.
